Rapid molecular Test Kit Launched For Tomato Mottle Mosaic Virus Tommv
Immunomart Inc is pleased to announce the launch of a new rapid molecular test kit for Tomato mottle mosaic virus (ToMMV) from Agdia Inc, a leading provider of diagnostic solutions for agriculture. The new assay is based on Agdia’s AmplifyRP® XRT platform, a user-friendly RNA-based assay that provides rapid, field-deployable molecular detection capabilities for ToMMV.
ToMMV is a significant threat to global tomato and pepper production, as it is able to bypass well-established viral resistance traits in these crops. Since its initial discovery in tomato crops in Mexico in 2013, ToMMV has been detected in the United States, Brazil, Europe, Africa, Asia and Iran. Symptoms of ToMMV infection include mottling, necrosis, flower abortion and leaf distortion.
As a distributor of Agdia’s products in Canada, Immunomart is excited to offer this new test kit to our customers. The AmplifyRP® XRT assay for ToMMV has been validated for use with tomato and pepper seeds and leaf, as well as other secondary matrixes such as peas and petunia. It provides users with greater flexibility to deploy detection capabilities where they need it, when they need it.
The new assay can be used in various applications, including in-field monitoring at remote production sites, screening incoming plantlets and monitoring production crops in commercial greenhouses, and laboratory-based molecular diagnosis with crude or purified extracts. The assay provides faster time-to-result than traditional PCR or qPCR methods, and can be used with Agdia’s AmpliFire® isothermal fluorometer or with most real-time PCR machines.
The AmplifyRP® XRT assay for ToMMV is highly specific to ToMMV and has been proven through experimentation and in-silico analysis to detect isolates from around the world. No cross-reactivity was observed with high titer samples from other Tobamoviruses, including Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV), Kyuri green mottle mosaic virus (KGMMV), Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV), Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV), Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV), Tobacco mild green mosaic virus (TMGMV), Zucchini Green Mottle Mosaic Virus (ZGMMV) and more.
